My Writing Space

Almost eight years ago, just a year after I’d moved across the country to a city I’d never been to before, I posted on my blog about my writing space. I’ve never been a lover of desks and traditional chairs, and I quickly adapted to using the sofa in my living room as my writing spot.

Now eight years later, I’ve moved again (still the same city and state, just a few miles away from where I’d been). I have a new house and a new couch, and still dislike desks and chairs, so here’s my new writing space:

I think it’s important to have a comfortable space in which to be creative. Yes, writing is a discipline (doing it whether you feel like it or not, whether it’s convenient or not). But it sure helps to have a space where you feel comfortable (physically and mentally), even if it’s just a pillow or the corner of the sofa. Creativity can sometimes be hard, so there’s nothing wrong with making the creative process easier on yourself whenever possible.

My sofa sits in a nook with windows, so technically my back is to the view outside. But just a turn of my head can show me a view like this:

I’m pretty grateful for my writing space! Where’s your favorite place to write?
